Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) is the largest multidisciplinary research institute in Croatia. The main core facilities are situated in Zagreb with Centre for Marine Research located in the town of Rovinj.

Interdisciplinary research conducted at the Institute are in the areas of chemistry, biology, biomedicine and bioinformatics that have the goal of meeting challenges in medicine and biotechnology, drug manufacture; food and ecology; research focused on solving complex problems in connection with the sea and environment, including chemical, biological, mathematical, biochemical, geological, veterinary, medical, physical and oceanographic research; in the areas of physics and chemistry that have the goal of preparing new materials and sensors, the development of analytic techniques for their characterization and the expansion of knowledge in the area of photonics and radiation technologies; as well as in  development of e-sciences with applications in various fields, such as bioscience, biotechnology, biomedicine, materials science and the modelling of complex system.

The Institute, with its research capacities, knowledge and scientific excellence, has assumed the role of linking science with the business sector of the Republic of Croatia. A multidisciplinary approach is one of the key strengths of the Institute, which provides comprehensive solutions for a broad spectrum of socially important issues. The Institute is the leading and internationally most competitive Croatian institute by virtue of its participation in international research projects.

Nadica Maltar Strmečki is senior research associate at Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, Croatia.

She is experimental physicist with many years of experience in the field of medical physics and biophysics, dosimetry and characterization of materials with radicals that are naturally present or induced by radiation. She works more than 20 years in field of dosimetry and her present work is devoted to improving experimental methods and detection in dosimetry on different materials (alanine, sugar, bone, glass, etc.).

Her research contributed not only to the enhancement of radiation dose detection in alanine, but also to understanding the process at the level of exposed molecules, but also to understanding the antioxidative processes in food exposure. For years she has worked intensively on teaching and supervising students.

Is a Research Assistant in Laboratory for Biocolloids and Surface Chemistry at Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI). She obtained her MSc degree in Physical Chemistry in 2017 from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, and is currently a PhD student at the same Faculty. Her specific research interest includes synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles, crystallization of relevant biominerals based on calcium phosphates, biomimetic synthesis of biomaterials based on calcium phosphate and titanium dioxide nanomaterials nanocomposites, dynamic light scattering characterization of nanomaterials and investigation of the stability of nanomaterials in complex media.

Is an expert advisor in the national laboratory for ionising radiation – Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory at the Ruđer Bošković Institute.

She has received a PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Zagreb in the field of Retrospective Dosimetry with the doctoral thesis „Sensitivity of Float Soda Lime Silicate Glass on Low Ionising Radiation Doses in Retrospective Dosimetry By Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy“. She is involved in research in the field of Retrospective Dosimetry and in Metrology of Ionising Radiation.
